Support Your Credit Union

There’s a major difference between what Bank Transfer Day (which is today) suggests, and the “run on the banks” that happened at the start of the Great Depression.  When people pulled money from the banks then, they kept it at home.  Activists who organized this event are not suggesting people do this.  After all, how can your funds have a positive impact on your community if tucked under your mattress?

What is being suggested is that consumers shift their money to a local not-for-profit credit union.  The more business credit unions have, the more loans with low rates they’re able to offer to small and medium-sized businesses. This will increase growth at the local level as these businesses are able to expand and hire additional employees.

As of today, 650,000 new customers have rolled their funds over to credit unions. For information on this event, here is their Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=281139538577206. To contact your local credit union, AltaOne, go to http://www.altaone.org/ or call (760) 873-5626.
